Become a MUSC Occupational Therapy Fieldwork Educator

Program Overview

The Occupational Therapy Doctoral (OTD) Program at MUSC’s College of Health Professions is a clinical doctorate graduate entry-level program. The program’s curriculum is rigorous and engaging; preparing students to contribute to improving the quality of life for people that experience difficulties and challenges with everyday living. Our program is designed around four primary content areas or curriculum threads: evidence-based practice, community engagement, interprofessionalism, and leadership.

The program is full-time, year-round, and takes 36 months to complete. The first six semesters are on campus and include a classroom, laboratory, and fieldwork. Fieldwork experiences are an integral part of the curriculum and allow opportunities for direct observation and participation in a variety of practice settings and contexts. These experiences help integrate learning from the classroom and lab and enhance capacity for becoming a proficient occupational therapist.

Clinical Education

After completion of foundational learning and pre-clinical coursework, the curriculum culminates in two final semesters of full-time fieldwork at facilities throughout the United States. All fieldwork must be completed within 12 months of the academic coursework. Additionally, after completion of fieldwork, students have a 14-week capstone experience.
