Objective: This will focus on the suite of TMS approaches used to investigate neurophysiology with TMS. These include single pulse, paired pulse inhibition/facilitation, cortical silent period, recruitment curve generation, paired associative stimulation, and interleaved TMS/MRI. The presentation will include basic neuroscience principles and pharmacology

Hands-on TMS Small Group Training
In this 3-hour module participants will break into groups and get exposure to the following environments:

Neuronavigation System
Interleaved TMS/MRI setup
Magventure TMS system (double blinding and active sha.m. control)
Magstim TMS system & lower extremity laboratory
Brainsway H-Coil laboratory
Closed-loop TMS-EMG laboratory + PAS laboratory

Objectives:
To introduce participants to new, state-of-the-art TMS methods develop.m.ents and biomarkers used as dependent measures
To describe the basic units and theory of electromagnetism, and make sure students understand how the different methods actually interact with the brain to cause stimulation. The importance of scalp-cortex distance will be highlighted as well as creating an effective sham.

To give the participants direct, hands-on practice with different TMS equip.m.ent, neuronavigation, protocol develop.m.ent, and progra.m.ming on the machines.

We will highlight some of the most influential studies in the field to date as well as describe the essential ingredients to design a rigorous, conceptually grounded protocol for a given population.
