CHP students honored at the 2023 MUSC Office of Student Engagement Leadership & Service Awards

On Wednesday, April 26, 2023, The MUSC Office of Student Engagement recognized student award winners during their annual Leadership & Services Awards Reception. Students from the College of Health Professions received recognition in several categories.

Student Organization Awards for Excellence in Service

This award recognizes MUSC student organizations or groups of students who have demonstrated outstanding volunteer service and partnership within the Tri-County community. These organizations work collaboratively to mobilize resources, engage in service projects or volunteer in collaboration with others, and support MUSC to build healthy communities.

The Community Aid Relief, Education and Support (CARES) Therapy Clinic, the student-run pro-bono clinic offering occupational, physical and speech therapy to underinsured and uninsured individuals in the Charleston area was one of five award winners. Students in the Master in Health Administration, Occupational Therapy Doctorate, Doctor of Physical Therapy, and Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology programs work collaboratively under the guidance of faculty and licensed clinicians to provide these services to the community.

Individual Award for Excellence in Service

This award is given to the student with the highest number of reported volunteer hours in Helper Helper this academic year. There is one awardee from each of the six colleges.

Mackenzie Walker, a second-year student in the Occupational Therapy Doctorate program, was awarded the Excellence in Service Award for the College of Health Professions.

MUSC Student Leadership Society

The purpose of the MUSC Student Leadership Society is to recognize those students who have made notable contributions to the university through their character, service, and commitment to enhancing the university environment or in their actions that reflect positively on the university. Students selected for the Society personify the ideals of the Medical University of South Carolina. This year 74 students were nominated, and 8 were selected as inductees into the Society. William Meyer, a Master in Health Administration student, was the sole inductee from the College of Health Professions this year.
