Physical Therapy Research

Faculty members in the Division of Physical Therapy have a range of research expertise that spans rehabilitation and education. They are sought-after physical therapy subject matter experts in the areas of stroke rehabilitation, musculoskeletal disorders and management, pediatrics, geriatrics, wheelchair delivery, measurement, trigger point dry needling, return to sport testing, and running gait mechanics. Additionally, they contribute to the field of higher education through studies in clinical education, residency education, the scholarship of teaching and learning, integration of health humanities in education, and more.

The division has evidenced its commitment to MUSC’s tripartite mission. With the combined support of leadership and innovation, we have built new strategies blending teaching, clinical practice, and research, such as the newly developed Neurologic Rehabilitation Institute (NRI) and NeXT Wellness Center. Moreover, our innovative physical therapy residency programs in orthopedics, neurological, and pediatrics nicely complement the DPT program and demonstrate our dedication to advancing the training of quality professionals. Finally, we are active in global health and providing therapy for those in need through the pro-bono CARES Therapy Clinic. The physical therapy professionals at MUSC are truly a force in advancing the physical therapy profession through their activities and engaging students to become future practitioners to meet the needs of our diverse population.
