The MUSC Doctor of Health Administration (DHA) program was the first doctoral health administration program in the country. We provide students with the cultural, humanistic, and professional background that the changing health care field demands. We have a long-standing history of developing health care leaders – a testament to the quality of our faculty, curriculum, and applicants. Our graduates go on to higher education faculty positions, leadership roles in health care advocacy, or the highest levels of health care administration.

Is this program right for me?

If you consider yourself to be an ambitious health care professional hoping to turn your clinical or administrative experiences into opportunities to teach, shape public policy and/or lead complex organizations, then our program may be right for you! We are seeking applicants with relevant post-baccalaureate professional or master's degrees and significant practical experience in the field.

Program Overview

Our 57-credit hour DHA program is delivered primarily online with on-campus visits one weekend each semester. Coursework includes leadership and management, applied research methods, health policy, change management, and more. The week-long Health Policy Seminar in Washington, D.C., a hallmark of our program, consists of visits with federal health agencies, policymakers, and health professional organization offices. In the final year of the program, students devote their time to an individual, supervised doctoral research project.

Program Highlights

  • Finish in as few as 8 semesters (most graduates finish on time or early)
  • Designed with working health care professionals in mind
  • Blended hybrid format leveraging online learning with on-campus visits
