Meet Lucas Marsh, MSHI Class of 2018

Current Position:

Veterans Health Administration Southeast Network Healthcare Technology Manager

How has earning your MSHI helped you in your current position?

Although my focus is health care technology, which produces data, understanding the “supply chain” and how the information is used downstream allows me to make better decisions upstream during the technology lifecycle. My goal is to use technology to best support patient care and my MSHI got me one step closer.

What was the most valuable part of the MSHI program?

I had previous exposure to informatics through my work, but did not have a complete picture of the theories, concepts, and practices. The MSHI program created a foundational knowledge of informatics for me to build upon. Now I can not only understand how we currently do things and why we got there, but were we should be headed in the future.

What advice would you give to someone considering the MUSC MSHI program?

Informatics is a broad field. Before entering the program, I would suggest having an idea of what sector of informatics interests you and what careers you hope to pursue upon graduation. You can then tailor the program to better suit your needs through specific courses and projects.
