2019 SDLC Executive Board

The Belonging, Engagement, Advocacy, Community, Outreach, Networking, and Service (BEACONS) Student Council is a student-led organization within the College of Health Professions (CHP) bringing awareness to health dispartieis, providing service and advocacy to underserved communities in the Charleston area, and promoting a sense of student belonging within the college. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, the CHP BEACONS Student Council encourages future health care professionals to engage in the diverse culture of health care today.

Meetings are used to discuss upcoming events and activities as well as to serve as a time for engaging presentations, discussion, service, and/or advocacy work. Some past events have included:

  • Hispanic Heritage Month: Family Feud Game Night
  • CHP Chat: Meet and Greet with MUSC Diversity Leaders
  • LQBT+ Panel
  • Count Me In: Breast Cancer Disparities Fundraiser
  • National Homelessness and Hunger Awareness Week: Food Drive with the Lowcountry Food Bank
  • Annual MUSC Black History Program
  • Disability Empowerment Awareness Month: Trivia Event
  • Women's History Month: Price is Right Event
  • Q&A Student Panels with Title One High Schools

The BEACONS Executive Board offers leadership opportunities for students who are seeking to exert leadership capabilities. The following list outlines leadership opportunities:

The CHP BEACONS Student Council and all meetings and activities are open to all students, and the College of Health Professions does not exclude any students based on race, ethnicity, or gender.
